This two-day Axe Making Course, hosted at Industrial Art Studios and powered by Vaughans tools, gives you the opportunity to forge your own one-handed general-purpose axe—a durable and practical tool that, with proper care, will last a lifetime.

What You’ll Experience:

• Forge Your Own Axe: Under the guidance of an experienced smith, you’ll transform a piece of tool steel into a fully functional axe. This includes punching and drifting the eye, forging the shape, and refining the form.
• All Materials Provided: You’ll be supplied with high-quality tool steel and a wooden handle to complete your axe.
• Hands-On Forging: Use a combination of hand tools, a hydraulic press, and a power hammer—some supplied by Vaughans—to shape and finish your axe.
• Heat Treating & Finishing: Learn how to grind and heat treat your axe to ensure it’s tough, sharp, and ready for use. You’ll also fit the handle yourself.
• Teamwork & Technique: Work both independently and in pairs, using traditional smith-and-striker methods with a sledgehammer.

By the end of the course, you’ll walk away with a handcrafted axe and a solid introduction to the art and craft of blacksmithing.
